The 2 Minute Rule

According to the 2 Minute Rule, you should read this post now.   Why? Because it will take less than 2 minutes.  So, don’t bother putting it on your to-do list or deferring it until later, just do it now.   Then just delete it.  Or, email it to someone who never seems to respond to your emails cause they’re “too busy” and haven’t learned about this magic Rule.

The 2 Minute Rule was made popular by David Allen – the Jesus-like figure for all productivity geeks that have ever lived (at least since 2002, when he published the book “Getting Things Done”).

The Rule says:

  1. If you can read and respond to an email or document in less than 2 minutes, just do it now.
  2. If you can do anything else on your “to do” list in less than two minutes, just do it now.

Learning and applying the 2 minute rule to documents, emails, and other stuff that you need to do today, will massively increase your productivity for ever.

Tip: don’t apply the 2 Minute Rule to cuddles with your cutie-pie,  coffees with your colleagues or calls to your mother.

Does the 2 Minute Rule work for you?

I love the 2 minute rule. It keeps my next action list pretty lean and makes me look like a super organized/efficient worker 🙂
