If you scan Google’s top 5 articles written about body language, you’ll see some pretty vanilla pointers:
- Smile
- Don’t fold or cross your arms and legs
- Don’t slouch – try and look confident.
- Don’t invade personal space
- Make eye contact (ie. like the animal in the above video)
But what about these comments (taken from the same 5 articles)?
- “don’t hold anything in front of your heart as it will make you seem guarded and distant. Lower it and hold it beside your leg instead.”
- “Because your eyes are so important in communication, you should try to ensure that your eyes look fresh, clean and healthy.”
- “Legs are the furthest point away from the brain, consequently they’re the hardest bits of our bodies to consciously control.”
The point it, when you’re trying to learn something, you’ve got to filter out a lot of rubbish to get the real information.
There are very few exceptions to this rule.
